Interveillance

Interveillance was part of Focus Groups: a month long curatorial project by where each weekend groups of guests were invited to experience and participate in different parameters. Interveillance was one such theme.

1. Interveillance: this term is a play on the word surveillance; which means to observe from above. Surveillance implies that an authority(above you) is watching. Interveillance is more about observing from the inside. You, observing yourself.

2. The performative body: the body having a voice/speaking for itself, through it’s actions and/or gestures. The body inscribes, carves, or writes it’s voice, in and on spaces, simply by being.

30 disposable cameras were distributed patrons at a local cafe. These cameras were customised with velcro strips, on the back and bottom.

Each participant was to click a photo per day, with no "bodies" in the frame.

Refer to Video. Objects in the space, including the cameras, are animated into intricate choreogries, written and composed by performative bodies. Projected through the windows of the cafe, this community portrait became a quilt of dancing spaces.
