The Cross Between Us

The Cross Between Us is a somewhat literal illustration of how the space between can be a space that either separates or connects, depending on how we reify or orient ourselves to it.

When two lines cross, they demarcate a point in space. In The Cross (+) Between Us, I separate the cross into it's two X and Y coordinates in each illustration, so as to render the duality of this point in space: this space between us.

Cultural ideas about "between" are often rooted in distinction, classification and separation; as in the fence between properties, or the border in between two countries.

While these are valid ways of reifying this concept, it fails to address the manners in which the space between is also the space or point where two or more things come together.

In contrary to traditional ideas about "between", this point or space, which is neither here nor there, still exists within a continuous plane of points that are interconnected.

The Cross Between Us speaks about the decision that we face in many different aspects of our lives. The space between us can be the space that separates us, or the space that connects us: the space where we come together. Instead of a wall, how about a social club?
